#BeKindToYourself: Making Time for Self-Care

Like most of you, we had a bit of a shock when we realized it’s already the second day of the second month of the year. “Where did the time go?,” say our incredulous IG posts. Beyond our confusion about time and our fervent hopes that Phil the Groundhog doesn’t see his shadow for a much-needed early spring, this day is also a reminder that January is over and that our resolutions scorecard is now due.

Most other articles will lament how we might have failed at Dry January or that new workout routine. However, this one will applaud you for having a list of resolutions, to begin with - and we hope that wellness is on that list! We believe that, like with many other things that demand our time and attention, achieving wellness starts with intentions. Of course, intentions without action mean nothing, but there’s a lot to be said about making, and not just ‘letting’, wellness happen. And so we at The Yard and PureMaven, the virtual headquarters for beauty & wellness professionals, are inspired to help our community create self-care routines.

What will it take to make wellness a habit? According to Harvard Business Review, “experts advocate for the old-fashioned approach: incremental progress. In fact, the first step towards creating long-term change involves building routines — not habits themselves. A habit is a behavior done with little or no thought, while a routine involves a series of behaviors frequently, and intentionally, repeated. Behavior has to be a regularly performed routine before it can become a habit at all.” (De Paul, Kristi. “What Does It Really Take to Build a New Habit?” Harvard Business Review, 02 Feb 2021)

We’re investing our energies where it matters most: by helping you make wellness happen, one self-care act at a time. The plan?

  1. Enjoy Expert Guidance: We’re taking advantage of having pros on speed-dial. We’ll share helpful self-care tips and insights, both big and small, on email and social, courtesy of experts and professionals from both PureMaven and The Yard. We’ll spotlight self-care stories, too, that have helped members of the community.

  2. Get Inspired: There’s nothing like work colleagues and friends - people with whom we spend most of our days - to get us motivated. Have a hack that gets you super-focused? Discovered a must-try latté around the corner? We’ll tap Instagram to help amplify those ideas. If you enjoy it, it has helped you or is simply inspiring, tell us the what's, whys, or hows and share it as a post or story on your account, with #BeKindToYourself. Make sure you tag @theyard and @puremaven so that you don’t miss out on #3👇.

  3. Reap the Rewards: Yes, self-care is the gift that keeps on giving, but we’ll even take it one level higher. Follow the guidelines of “Get Inspired” ☝️, and the most inspiring and helpful content gets chosen for extra perks that’ll elevate your routine-building. Think about getting complimentary virtual masterclasses, bonus privileges, and beauty & wellness product gifts, just to name a few!

#BeKindToYourself is not just a mantra: it’s the best intention you can start your day with. After all, to truly care for others, we must first take care of ourselves. Ready to make time for self-care? Let’s make, and not just let, wellness happen.

This week: we’d love to hear your favorite winter self-care routines!
